Description
2008 Macau Series III Silver Rat Coin
2008年澳門鼠標年生肖紀念銀幣,面值20澳門元
The 2008 inaugural issue features the stylized Rat with beautifully colored peonies in the background, signifying abundant fortune in the New Year.
The glory of the A-Ma Temple is immortalized on the reverse of the coins; A-Ma Temple already existed before the city of Macau came to being. The variety of pavilions dedicated to the worship of different deities in a single complex make A-Ma Temple an exemplary representation of Chinese culture inspired by Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism and multiple folk beliefs.
Macao Lunar Commemorative Series:
Applauded for its presentation, the new series (2008-2019) of commemorative Lunar coins presents the Chinese almanac animals with a modern touch on the obverse. On the reverse, a different design is depicted each year to best represent Macao- the 12 selected heritage sites of Macao. These twelve selected heritage sites are inscribed in the World Heritage list by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Each site vividly epitomizes the glorious culture and rich heritage of Macao in its own unique way.
