Design of the coin:

The 1 oz gold medal obverse bears the title of the SINO-JAPANESE FRIENDSHIP 1972-1987 in English as well as Chinese characters. The Great Wall and Mt. Fuji encircled, and the year date; The reverse features the Tong Tong panda bear with bamboo. The medals weight, fineness and monetary denomination and the words and characters TONG TONG inscribed.

The 31.104g (1 oz)  gold medal is Proof in quality, 32 mm in diameter,  99.9% in fineness and contains 1 troy ounce of pure gold. The maximal mintage is 5,000 pieces.
