The People’s Bank of China is to issue a series of gold and silver commemorative coins for World Expo 2010 Shanghai (series I) on June 10, 2009. The series consists of a gold coin and two silver coins, all of which are the legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.

Design of the coin:

Obverse design:

These silver commemorative coins bear the common obverse of the logo of World Expo 2010 Shanghai with the background of the earth (partially colored), the title of the People’s Republic of China and the year date.

Reverse design:

The reverse of one of the 1 oz silver coin depicts the geometrical pattern of dandelion, Chinese characters of “World Expo 2010 Shanghai” and the face value;

Specifications and mintage of the coin:

The 1 oz silver coin is proof in quality, 40 mm in diameter, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver. The total mintage for each is 70,000 pieces.

The gold coin is minted by Shenzhen Guobao Mint, Shanghai Mint and Shenyang Mint.
