2012 TOKELAU S$1 True Love PF70 Ultra Cameo
The reverse side of this pretty silver coin bears a selectively coloured posy of forget-me-nots, the symbol of remembrance. Green leaves complement the blossoming pink and yellow flowers. At the top of the heart shaped coin are the words, “True Love.” True love always is pure and simple, and for these reasons, is always something to remember.
Legend has it that the forget-me-not first became a flower of remembrance when a knight stopped in full armour to gather a bouquet of flowers from alongside a riverbank, with the intent to give them to his lady. He lost his balance and fell into the surging river, but before he drowned, he tossed the flowers to his lady, saying, “Forget me not!”
Today these flowers grow virtually everywhere on the globe, especially by riverbanks. Many organizations have selected this flower to serve as their symbol, because true love always remembers.
The obverse side of this coin bears the intricate cameo of Queen Elizabeth II, the monarch of Tokelau. You will also see the Tokelau flag, and the coin’s legends indicate the value and purity of the coin, which is also considered legal tender in Tokelau.
